Void Stalker Conversion

by D. Gibson

Hi, I'm new to this group and mailing lists in general, but thought you might like to hear about my version of the Void Stalker. It has all the weapons systems in the right places according to the stats.

It requires one full eclipse kit, the hull and prow off a shadow, and something to fill in a gap - I used an old plastic epic scale falcon grav tank with the back, front and bottom trimmed off.

Assembly Instructions - Hope you can follow these!

  1. Take the hull of the eclipse and trim away the section where the wings are normally mounted. This needs to be done in such a way that it becomes possible to invert the Shadow's hull and fit the front of it into this area. Pin the two hulls and fill the gap with epoxy putty. You should now have the Eclipse hull with the Shadow hull inverted underneath. You must also trim away the locating lugs for positioning the prows on each hull.
  2. Take the prow from the shadow and after trimming the studs of the bottom invert it. This should then be pinned and glued to the end of the front of the Eclipse hull in such a way that the flat of the prow is flush with the flat part of the front of the Eclipse Hull. The effect you are going to be aiming for is a little bit like the underside of the Aconite.
  3. Trim a plastic epic falcon so that the section that rises at the back is removed, the front is removed just after the point where the lascannon fans out and goes back in and the underside is removed until it is level with the falcon superstructure. If you cannot obtain a plastic falcon, anything about 2cm and Eldarish that looks right will do (an old deathstalker hull perhaps?). This needs to be glued onto the section of the Eclipse hull where the prow would normally be, its engines facing backwards. If done correctly it should also overlap the inverted Shadow Prow by about 0.5cm.
  4. Glue the assembled Eclipse Prow on top of the flat of the Shadow Prow, It should stick out by about 0.5cm in front.

The top of the Void Stalker should now appear as an Eclipse prow with an inverted Shadow set back underneath followed by a section of grav tank followed by the rest of the hull.
  5. Trim a small section out of the middle of the back of the Eclipse launch bay. This needs to be done so thay it may be inserted into the section of the Shadow Hull where its prow would normally be located. Pin and glue this into place after drilling a hole in the bottom large enough for the stand to be glued into. This gives you an underside with the launch bay pointing forward attached to the Shadow Hull. (If required you could attach the Shadow's torpedo launchers here to produce the variant instead)
  6. The Shadow hull should still have the locations intact for attaching the large solar sails. Attach the Eclipse Sails to the Shadow hull as in a normal assembly. As the Shadow hull is inverted these sails will be angled upwards on the finished model.

The final model should have bird-of-prey appearance due to the upward angled wings. With the two prows at the front on a long neck and the launch bay on the main hull underneath.

Technically it doesn't have the right number of lances/batteries modelled on it, but there again it's not the only BFG ship model guilty of that is it!
