ORK TAKTIKS

by Paul Bernandino

The orks have taken the store that I game at by storm. There are 4 of us are playing in the Summer Bash. Here are some taktiks we have developed to help you boyz.

SLINGSHOT BRUTES

Since ships on AAF cannot turn, it is hard to set up to ram with the Brutes. However, if you have them in a gravity well, you get that 45° turn toward the planet. We have slingshotted around a planet to get a Desolator trying to swing around our flank that way. Scored only 2 hits with 3 Brutes (Bad dice), and lost 2 Brutes, but the look on the Chaos players face when we came whipping around the planet was worth the loss.

POP-UP BRUTES

Another tactic used was to put the Brutes into Low orbit in turn 1 or 2, and hold position in the edge of low orbit. Around turn 3 or 4, the heat of the battle has made most players forget that you have the boyz in the planet. Since the rules are not specific where along the planet's circumference you come out of orbit, when a ship gets into about 30 cm range, come out of low orbit in line with the vitim and go AAF. We got us a Gothic this way.

ASSAULT CRAFT & BOARDING TORPS

Spending the points for the torpedo launcha and boarding torps are your friend, especially when mounted on Terror Ships. I tend to launch them in the first turn of the game. They should be used to swarm on top of any vessels that have the range advantage on your fleet. The combination shold get through any turrets you face. The net result is that you are able to temporarily suspend the fire against your ship if not at least reduce it so you can close in and gang up on them.

SKWADRONS OF KROOZERS

Squadrons of 2 or 3 Kill Kroozers are very useful. On their own, Kill Kroozers, generally do not have enough FP to get enough dice to hurt any ship. If you put them in squadron, then they can combine FP on a target. At 155 a kill cruiser, a 2 ship squadron cost as much as a battleship, but packs twice the punch.

ESCORT SQUADRONS

Keep your squadrons as small as possible. This will reduce the carry over of the hits among the squadron. I generally run Brute sqds of 2, and ravagers of 2. The only sqd's I run in large numbers are savages (3 to 4 minimum). See below.

KROOZER HUNTING

I run a 4 escort squadron of Savages. They hang out in the rear of the fleet and don't get stuck in. Instead, they either try to swing around a flank or they creep up behind the front line. If you can work them in close (usually I use the Kill Kroozers to herd them in), they can unleash 16 Fps of heavy gunz. Much Carnage, Much Joy.
