A Solar Waster is a highly energetic radiation source. Launched from a Necron ship, it activates once it has left the torpedo tubes (i.e. when the marker is placed against the ship's base in the shooting phase). It moves 45cm per ordnance phase. If it comes into contact with fighters, bombers or assault boats, it destroys ALL of them--and keeps moving. Torpedoes or mines struck by Solar Wasters explode, destroying both counters. Solar Wasters may be fired upon by ships using the ordnance column and require a 6+ to hit-Lances also strike on a 6+. One hit destroys the entire counter.
If it strikes an enemy vessel, roll a number of D6 equal to the strength of the Solar Waster counter, on a 4+ the Solar Waster affects the ship. Turrets are handled normally. Ships do not take damage, instead, each hit applies a modifier of -1LD. Do not roll for a possible critical hit.
If a ship reaches zero LD, it is adrift with no crew. Ships reduced to 5 or less LD will be at 6 LD in the next battle. Solar Wasters are affected by gravity wells. Eldar Holofields do NOT protect against Solar Wasters. Firing past a Solar Waster is equivalent to firing through a blast marker. Design Notes: Solar Wasters do not actually cause any damage to machinery. Instead, they swiftly kill crews. Hence the fighters/bombers/assault ships are not actually destroyed, their crews are killed by close proximity to the radiation source.
