Yurla Katan

Howling Banshee Captain

40K3 conversion by Tom and Erik Setzer; Based on 40K2 background and rules by Mike Freeman

Continuing in my Aspect Captain series, I decided to do a Banshee captain. There's not much more to it than that!

One of the most feared Aspect Warriors of the Eldar are the Howling Banshees. These dread fighters emit a sonic scream to stun opponents while they tear them limb from limb in a frenzied dance of death. Often these squads are led by Exarchs of the Banshee shrine, which makes them a hugely deadly fighting unit, capable of destroying squads of enemy soldiers in the blink of an eye. Sometimes a Banshee becomes so adept in her act she leads the squad instead of the normal group effort. Not quite an Exarch, yet not quite a regular Banshee either, these Captains make an already formidable fighting force better. One of the more famous Banshee Captains is the formidable fighter known as Yurla Katan. Hailing from the craftworld of Aliatoc, she is known for her frenzied fighting style, which transforms her into a whirling dervish of death. Another trait she is known for is her extreme devotion to the Howling Banshee shrine. Some say she will take on the mantle of Jain Zar when she reaches Exarch status.

SPECIAL RULES

Squad Leader: Yurla is always part of a Howling Banshee squad purchased from the Eldar army list, which she leads.

Dervish: When going into battle, Yurla sometimes becomes a whirling shadow of destruction which causes confusion and panic within enemy units and doubles her fighting power. Nominate whether Yurla will be doing a Dervish Attack before she charges. If she does so, then she gains +1 to her attacks (added to her normal characteristic of 2, plus two hand weapons gives her a total of 4 is she does this attack.) Also, any break tests that the enemy unit she is engaged with is forced to take, they will suffer a -1 to their Leadership. This is to show the relative chaos that a Banshee ripping through a squad has! Unfortunately, going into a Dervish attack causes Yurla to become more uncontrolled than normal, so she only counts as having WS 4.
