++The Ursa++
++This report of the Imperial Scout Service restricted by order of the Inquisition, only for distribution to the High Lords and the commanders of the Adeptus Asartes.++
The Ursa were only discovered in the last century and they are still not known of by the majority of the Imperium. They were discovered on the Northwestern frontier by the Imperial ship Venture which was on a routine Scouting mission.
The Venture came out of Warp space to discover a system of six planets orbiting a yellow star. Three of those worlds were inhabited by an advanced civilization of Bear people. The Venture immediately withdrew without making contact. Since that time there have been several border clashes with these alien beings and several things have been learned of them.
It is known that they are a feudal society with a supreme monarchy and several stages of nobles ruling the difeerent worlds. There is a warrior caste that has several different fighting societies, or, as the Ursa call them, Claws.
The Imperium has been unable to discover the extent of their empire but it semms to be quite extensive with a powerful fleet and a strong army using high tech weapons and equipment, much of it previously unknown to the Tech Priests of the Adeptus Mechanicus. They are fierce, well armed opponents.
So far the Ursa have not shown any intention to expand into Imperium space. It is feared that one day these aliens will mount an invasion and the Imperium will be faced with another well armed force of savage alien fighters bent on the destruction of Mankind.
The Ursa are not truly Bear people, they are very large humans with a heavy covering of body hair and a very muscular physical build, they have keen eyesight and hearing and a well developed sense of smell. they also use many images of bears in their banners and heraldry.
The Ursa have a hereditary Warrior Caste made up of several societies, or Claws, that specialize in different forms of combat, the largest number seem to be close combat styles. They also seem to have hereditary castes of scientists, technicians, mechanics, navigators and pilots. There seems to be many psychics among these different castes, and each caste has its own psychic training.
The Ursa also use more robotics and cybernetics than does the Imperium of Man or other races known to the Imperium. They have robots mounting support weapons, scout drones, and cybernetically enhanced warriors in their forces, these are used in support of the Warrior socieities on the battle fields and to scout and locate the enemy.
