Introduction |
Welcome to Codex: Squats, a book dedicated to the forces of the Squat strongholds.
The stronghold is the basis of Squat civilization. A planet may have several strongholds, but rarely more than half a dozen. The warriors from a stronghold are its Brotherhoods, so called because of their close blood relationship and ties of vengeance rights. Strongholds sometimes band together into leagues.
The leader of the stronghold is called the Lord. The leaders of the stronghold's Brotherhoods are called Warlords, and they are usually close relations of the Lord. In battle each Warlord leads a Brotherhood as well as his own personal Hearthguard.
The Squats use many armoured vehicles, fast Guild Bikes, and flying machines on the battlefield. They use fast, heavily armed Gyrocopters for scouting and making flanking and hit and run attacks. The sight of a Guild Bike squadron roaring down on the enemy has been known to break the enemy's resolve and create panic among the enemy troops, such is their reputation.
Squats are a wonderful army for people who like tough fighters with a tough attitude. The general attitude of the Squats is enough to pull in many gamers. The variety of troops also allows you to field any kind of army you like. The look of the army, reminiscent of fantasy Dwarfs, is also a plus. You can use a variety of models to create special conversions.
The Squats give people something new, something different from most other Warhammer 40,000 armies. They are slow, yet have an element of speed to their army. They are tough, and hardy fighters. They excel at hand to hand, and are masters of firepower, often having a large amount of artillery to back up the Brotherhood troopers as they march toward the opposing army.
This Codex includes two sections:
The Squats. This section gives some information on the history and organization of the Squats.
The Army List. Tells you about the different characters, troops, weapons and vehicles available to a Squat army, and how to select an army for use in a Warhammer 40,000 game.
Appendices. This section gives appendix entries allowing you to field Engineers Guild troopers and Imperial Allies in your army.
