The concept of the the warband is important to the Slann attitude to life. Every Slann is expected to live its life according to a strange, mystic and largely unfathomable ritual, as part of which the individual passes through life-stages. The calling to a life-stage would seem a real and almost unstoppable thing to a Slann, and can happen at any time, so that a peaceful technician may become a wanderer, a warrior, a hermit, etc. Once a Slann feels the call to become a warrior it joins one of its tribe's warbands, or forms a warband of its own. Because of this unpredictable recruiting method, warbands change all the time. Warband: A warband consists of between 5 to 15 models. Weapons: Boltcaster, or hand caster and close combat weapon. Options: Up to half of the Slann may be armed with one of the following: Graviton Gun +10 pts; Needler +10 pts; Webber +8 pts. The entire warband may be armed with one or more of the following grenades: Frags at +1 pt per model; Kraks at +2 pts per model; Haywires at +4 pts per model.Any Slann may be given a Refractor field at +5 points per model.
Saurans are ferocious but slow-moving creatures.They were originally bred by the Slann from some kind of prehistoric crocodile or alligator. The creatures they bred are more intelligent than their crocodile ancestors, and can walk on two powerful hind legs, leaving their arms free to wield weapons. The Slann bred them deliberately as Warriors rather than servants and workers. Like all of the reptilian creatures created by the Slann, Saurans have thick, scaly hide, which protects them as a form of natural armour. It is in fact better than metal, because it is horny and cannot be dented or cut through, even by energy weapons, as easily as metal armour could be. A Sauran is only wounded if a weapon manages to pierce the skin between its scales. Saurans are sufficiently intelligent to understand simple battlefield orders that are clearly stated, and are just articulate enough in the rasping Sauran tongue to repeat messages. The most intelligent naturally rise to be leaders of units of their own kind. Saurans therefore make excellent warriors, but they are not much good at anything else. Warband: A warband consists of between 5 to 10 models. Weapons: Axe (close combat weapon). Options: Any model may be armed with one of the following weapons: additional close combat weapon at +1 pt; hand caster at +2 pts; Slann halberd at +20 pts; power weapon at +15 pts. One in every five Saurans may be armed with one of the following: Graviton Gun +10 pts; Needler +10 pts; Webber +8 pts.The entire warband may be armed with one or more of the following grenades: Frags at +1 pt per model; Kraks at +2 pts per model; Haywires at +4 pts per model.Any Saurans may be given a Refractor field at +5 points per model.
Skinks are fast, agile, and intelligent. Of all the reptilian races, Skinks are the most vocal and speak the Sauran tongue faster than any of the other reptilian races. This means they are good at organizing themselves, conveying the instructions of their Slann masters and taking messages. Skinks tend to operate well in large warbands and quite naturally work together to accomplish tasks, moving always on the signal of their leaders. This makes them useful as Warriors. Although they lack the sheer aggression of the Saurus, they are good at using ranged weapons, and they make excellent crews for support weapons. Skinks find no difficulty crossing water, whether this be wide river, swamps, or lakes. Warband: A warband consists of between 10 to 30 models. Weapons: Hand casters and close combat weapons. Armour: Scaly Skin (6+, can't be modified to less than 6+). Options: Any model may replace his hand caster and close combat weapon with a bolt caster at no additional points cost. One in every five Skinks may be armed with one of the following: Graviton Gun +10 pts; Needler +10 pts; Webber +8 pts. The entire warband may be armed with one or more of the following grenades: Frags at +1 pt per model; Kraks at +2 pts per model; Haywires at +4 pts per model.Any Great Crested Skinks may be equipped with a Refractor field at +5 points.
