Exodite Megadons

40K3 conversion by Tom and Erik Setzer; Based on 40K2 background and rules by Mike Freeman

In the 2nd edition Eldar codex, specifically in the brief Exodite chapter, we hear about how Dragon Knights herd Megadons. Now what the hell's a Megadon you ask? Well I think it's either a Triceratops-like creature or a Ultrasaur type of thing. But since these particular Megadons are more for battle and less for meat, I think i'll declare these....Triceratops'. I'm inspired by the picture of "dragons" toting huge guns on their backs. Hey, if the Eldar could use one thing, it's huge monsters with giant guns!

Before the Fall, many Eldar saw that their people's decadent ways were destroying them and left to build new colonies. On these far off planets, they discovered that their main resource was the mighty dragons. These so called dragons range greatly in size and power. One type is the nimble riding dragons that the Dragon Knights use in combat. But one of the most impressive dragons is the mighty Megadon. Measuring over 60 m in length and standing 10 feet hight, this massive creature is an impressive sight indeed. Only the most masterful Dragon Knight can ever attempt to approach such a creature, for they are reknowned for there rarity and hairtrigger temper. One false move made by an approaching Exodite will confuse the beast, causing it to go on a beserk rampage. This is why only the most skilled are allowed to ride them. One of the hardest parts of riding a Megadon is that it's not exactly bright. Also, they're very rare, and you must find one and approach it skillfully enough to gain it's trust. But once the rider is succesfully on the beast's back, the Megadon becomes fiercely loyal towards it's keeper. The major use of the Megadon is armoured support. The Megadon is incredibally tough, and can sustain massive damage. It is also very strong, and can carry large cannons on it's back and/or shoulders. Another major use is a living battering ram, as the Megadon possesses a very hard skull and three razor sharp horns on it's eyebrows and snought. The massive bulk of the creature makes it ideal for storming military positions.

Megadon 150 4 0 7 7 5 2 3 3 3+

Wargear: The Rider is armed with a Laser Lance.   He may take additional equipment from the Eldar Armoury.

Options: Because of their great strength and resilience, the Megadon may be armed with heavy weapons to support the Exodites in battle. Note that for this to be possible, their must be at least 1 Eldar Craftworld squad in the army.

Lascannon: One mounted on back for 35 points, two on shoulders for 70 points.

Scatter Laser: One mounted on back for 30 points, two on shoulders for 60 points.

Plasma Cannon: One mounted on back for 35 points, two on shoulders for 70 points.

These weapons are operated by the Rider. If he fires these weapons, he may not fight in hand-to-hand combat that turn.

SPECIAL RULES

Causes Terror: The giant bulk of a Megadon bearing down on the enemy is often too much to bear. The Megadon causes terror.  Any enemy squad or character within 8" of the Megadon must take a Ld test or begin falling back.

Targetting the Megadon: Since the Megadon is a large riding beast, it is quite likely that shots at the rider will hit it, and vice versa. Any shots at the creature and rider will be resolved as such. On a D6 roll of 1-4, the shot hits the Megadon. On a 5, it hits the weapon closest to the shooter. On a 6, it hits the Exodite Mighty Hero. If the weapons is hit, it is considered to have an armour value of 10. If penetrated, it is destroyed.

Ram: For the use of storming strongholds, the Megadon may be gauded into ramming a wall or structure with incredible force. Treat this like a charge. Once per game, the Megadon can ram something, whether it be infantry or a building. The force of this ram is very large indeed. This counts as a single close combat attack with a Str. 10 and no armour save allowed.

Pea Brain: The Megadon is not known for it's intelligence, and indeed is sometimes hard to control because of it's stupidity. Each turn, the Megadon's Rider must take a Ld test. If he fails this test, it is possible that the Megadon will go berserk. Roll a d6. On a roll of 5 or 6, the Megadon has been spooked by something on the battlefield, and it is now uncontrollable. The rider is thrown off in this situation, and it will use it's Ram attack on the nearest squad, whether it be friendly or enemy.
