Throughout the galaxy can be found the fortresses, churches, cathedrals and missions of the Ministorum. Also found throughout the galaxy are cruelty, famine, and the savage existence of life in the 41st millennium. Often this dark age leaves many without family and means to survive. most perish but others end up with the Ministorum, brought together in the great orphanages.
These cast-offs from the Imperium are known as Oblates and spend the rest of their lives in the service of the church, repaying the kindness shown to them. Many go on to become full members of the Ecclesiarchy, but others are either too lame, too dim, or simply ill-suited to such a vocation and spend their lives as grounds keepers, scribes, labourers or personal servants.
During times of conflict, these devoted souls are more than willing to throw themselves into the fray, shambling, stumbling and racing forth with whatever tools and crude weapons they can find to defend those who they consider family, flying into a blind rage should their sisters, brothers, fathers and mothers be taken from them.

Leadership
: Oblates are fanatically loyal to the priesthood which took them in and gave them a home and purpose. They have great resolve in the face of danger, allowing them to roll three dice for Leadership tests, taking the best two dice.
